Happy Monday my lovely readers! And what a motivating one it’s going to be. Can you believe it’s May already? Crazy I know! And with a new month brings a new challenge, are you excited???
This month we’re tackling inactivity head on by Moving More in May! One of my favourite bloggers, Janetha (who is also a fan of alliteration like me) set us a new challenge this month to increase our activity outside of our normal workouts. Increasing incidental exercise is not only a great way to break up the day, it also gets the blood flowing and can even burn a few extra calories.
A little more movement can do our bodies a whole lot of good. I for one spend most of the day sitting. As a student I’m either sitting at a lecture, or at my computer, and then sit on public transport and go back home. Yes I workout several times a week, but I do lack general movement throughout the day.
The great thing about this challenge is your moves can be anything great or small, so long as it’s outside of your official workout. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Wake up a little earlier and go for a walk before breakfast
- Get up from your desk throughout the day and do some stretches or chair squats
- Waiting for the kettle to boil? Knock out a set of push-ups in the kitchen
- Dust off your bike and ride to the gym
- Try some tricep dips during TV commercials
- Go outside and play with your kids! Try hopscotch, monkey bars, or the swings
Those are just a few ideas, but let your imagination be your guide and just try something new! By making it fun you are much more likely to stick to it. I’ve made it my challenge to do one small thing each day, whether it be yoga after dinner, a push-up challenge with my dad, or blasting some tunes while I clean the house. And I know you can do it too! So get up, get out, and move it!

I just love you.
awwww love you too! Hope blend is a blast
Hi, i love the sound of move more in May. Today I ran 8k. Well nearly.. over the whole time I only walked 500m. And did it in an hour! I wil def be back in the gym after the fun run.
Jennifer that is just awesome!!! So glad your running is going so well. What day is your fun run?
hi Sarah, it’s on Mothers day, this sunday. Although I feel fairly well prepared -physically, in that I know I can do it – every time i hear the ad on the radio I get nervous and wonder what the hell I’m doing. It’s all mind over matter, or the mind getting in the way. thanks for your support.
You will do great! Can’t wait to hear how it goes xox
I will let you know.
i’ll be doing a post run de-brief on my blog.. lol
I love this! I need to add the button and do a post on it. I’m definitely guilty of taking the lift instead of the stairs, for one example. Today I did squats in the shower, and I’m planning on doing some at work, as well as taking a walk on my lunch break.
Yes add the button and take part! Sounds like you are on a roll already…keep it up
I’m mowing the lawn. My husband has a riding tractor to do it but last week I bought myself a push mower I can walk behind so I can help when he travels for work and get exercise too. I told the man at Home Depot: “Some women want jewelry, I want a lawn mower!”
Haha that’s great barbara!!! Mowing the lawn is hard work. The man at home depot must have been impressed. I think for me it would be ‘Some women want jewelry, I want kitchen appliances (a vitamix if we’re being really honest here!)’
I try to get out of the house at least once a day because I start feeling really sluggish. Lately, I’ve been parking it on my couch for hours at a time now that school is done. Thanks for the motivation to get outside again!
Yay for being done with school!!! hope you have some fun outdoor adventures
Yes, yes, thank you for the reminder, as always! I’m working in an office all week and find that I don’t stand up or stretch nearly as often as when I work from home. But if I drink a lot of water all day, I HAVE to stand up to get myself to the bathroom! So, that’s my trick
Hope you’re doing well!
So true…and drinking water is really important
Love it Sarah, this is just what we need for Spring! I love slipping in some burpees or pushup when the store is empty or getting in some jumping jacks in between clients. So happy you’re doing this~ keep sharing!!
T
Hey Tamara! Sneaking in exercise is a great way to stay fit. I just busted out some push-ups in my room
Hope you keep up with the challenge xox
Great post Sarah! We could all fit a little more moving into our days and your tips make it so easy – I am in! xo!
And next Friday, May 18th, is Bike to Work Day!!! Who’s in???
That’s great! I don’t have a bike but always use public transport. are you taking part?
